Funny story about this fly. I was fishing "3 strikes and out" with a friend about 12 years ago. This guy always used a LaFontaine Sparkle Pupa. I used this fly and out-fished him. My friend asked what I was using. I told him a LAP Caddis. He asked me "what does LAP stand for?" I thought quickly and said, "LaFontaine's a Pantywaist." A couple years later, I'm tying at a show when Mr. LaFontaine comes to my table. He watches me tie for a minute, reads my name tag and says, "You're Barry Reynolds, right?" I said, Yes Sir, I am." Then he says, "So what did I do to make me a pantywaist?" I was shocked!! Turns out my friend knew Gary casually and couldn't wait to tell him the story. I was embarassed as all hell. Gary, always the gentleman, thought it was very funny. I tied him up a few of the flies and explained to him that LAP actually stands for Litebrite And Polydubbing, which were the main ingredients of the fly.
