Was this in Custer State Park, by chance? I always swing by that Praire Dog town when I'm in the area. It is doccumented that the town was around when Custer himself "explored" the area.

That picture was either The Bad Lands park or Custer Park, we found two big praire dog towns in each that I took pictures of
